The Night Agent S2 (9/10)
by Tony Medley
10 Episodes, Netflix
TV-MA
The second season of The Night Agent is even better
than the first, and that’s saying a lot, since my understanding is that
the first season was Netflix’s highest rated show. Peter Sutherland
(Gabriel Basso) returns as a vastly more experienced agent, going rogue
after the harrowing first season.
His love interest, Rose (Luciane Buchanan) assumes
a more active role in his dilemma. And his handler, Catherine (Amanda
Warren) joins in fighting the dangers despite a mole who seems to be
betraying them.
Added is Noor (Amanda Warren), who becomes a
reluctant ally as she worries about the welfare of her family in Iran.
Noor’s presence in what appears to be the Iranian Embassy is a troubling
faux pas in that Iran does not have an embassy in the United States.
Despite that Noor’s presence adds a compelling B
story to that of Peter’s, complicated by his apparent untrustiness due
to the allegations that his father was accused of being responsible for
a major leak from the Pentagon. Embedded in the tale are the romantic
relationship between Rose and the dubious trust between Peter and
Catherine.. So each episode pulsates with tension among all four
protagonists.
